Term 4 Highlights

This term reminds me of the fun and exciting things we done for the past few weeks. Our school has been involved in many different sports we enjoyed. I really enjoy using our netbooks and getting to take them home. My highlights are the most things I have enjoyed this term.

My first highlight is the Senior Prize giving. I really liked watching all the items and seeing the people getting the awards. The item I liked the best was the year 8’s, it was cool and funny. Another thing I liked about the Prize giving was getting an award, I got the award for best effort from my class.

Volleyball was another highlight this term. It was fun because it was something different and we played by the real rules. I also liked how fun it was and how cool it was to get the chance to play. The sad thing was that I didn’t get to represent the school at the beginning of the term.

My biggest highlight of all is becoming a year 8, and being at the top of the school. I cant wait to be a year 8 because its the last year of intermediate.

What does being a Yr 8 role model mean

Being a year 8 is like being at the top of the school. Today all the year 8’s have gone to Totara Springs so the year 7’s have to step up and take charge. The important things that makes a good role model is taking care of the little kids and setting a great example for them. The person who really stands out if being a good role model is Tia , I pick her because she does the right things and she is very mature .

As I am going to be a year 8, I’m looking forward to being at the top of the school, as well as being a great leader. My biggest fear of being a year 8 is doing the wrong thing and making the little kids do the same. Seini - Mino is the person who would make a great Leader, I really think she will be great for a Prefect because she is a great person and takes charge of her stuff and other people.

What makes a great Role Model ? Making a great Role Model is keeping to the rules and controlling your actions as well as the words you say. I really hope that we have great leaders next year to make our school a better envrioment.

Senior Prize Giving

Last night our school was holding a Prize Giving for the years 5 to 8. I was so excited, it started at 7:00 p.m and ended at 9:00 p.m. The best thing I was looking forward to was seeing who got Dux as well as the performances. The group I participated in was the year 7 item. The best thing about the night was getting an award, I got the award for Best Effort in Room 21, I was really proud. Another thing I enjoyed was the ending because it was so hot and I couldn't wait to get out.

Athletics Interzones

Walking into school seeing the intermediate team all ready for the inter zones at Loyd Alsmore. When the bus came we all ran to the bus, and as we arrived at Loyd Alsomre we sat under a tree near the entrance, unfortunately Sacred Heart already reserved it so we sat on the other side. We had a little look around the place and walked around the track a couple of times. Then we saw all the other schools arriving.

After all the examining we sat back down ready for the first event. The first event was the 1500 meter race, but our school wasn’t in it. During the races some of the boys went to compete in there first event like Shot Put, Discus, High Jump and many more. My event was at 10:30 so I just wondered around the place. I got bored so I sat down and had a little snack while I watched most of the events. I was in the finals for Discus.

Finally there events finished, some people came back both happy and sad but unless they tried. When they came back they had a little snack, just as they were coming up the hill I heard a call out for all the Junior Girls to make there way to Circle 1 for Discus. I was so nervous but i had to believe in my self, there had to be 2 people form each school but I was by my self because Thora was away.

As I arrived to circle 1 I saw all the other people I was competing against, I was so nervous. I was the last person to go. When I walked into the circle, I picked up the Discus, and after I threw it, the helpers measured the length, but I stepped over the circle. Then everyone had a 2nd attempt I would of came first but I stepped over the circle again. Soo I had to have another go, but I didn’t really try, but unless I came 3rd.

I really enjoyed my self, as well as the company of my friends. It was so fun and exciting, especially the races. I hope we do the same thing next year, and have a really good time again. I would like to thank all the teachers and helpers for supporting us through out the events.

Our Exciting Day Of Athletics.

Yesterday we had our school Athletics. I felt so nervous when I walked into school, I was already dressed into my house colour Tainui, which was the blue team. There were some other people dressed in different colours Blue, Red, Yellow, Green. When the second bell rang we went to class and our teacher wrote age & house colour on our hand, and off we went to the courts ready to start the event.

When we got there we sat in our age groups and they were the people you were competing against. Then Mr Burt told us the things we needed to do, then he said a prayer and off we went to do our first event. Our first event was Softball Throw. Everyone was lined up ready for there turn, “Up next” said Ms Squires it was my turn. I didn’t really try hard but unless I done it. Next we went to Triple Jump.

Next we went to Triple Jump. The instructor explained the rules, we had to hop, jump then land on both feet. Who ever jumped the furthest was 1st, 2nd or 3rd. We had a little practise, we weren’t allowed a run in the beginning so it was kind of harder. When my turn was up I done the technique but I slipped, so I didn’t come anywhere. But Thora, Toreka and Chelsea were the top 3. After that we went to Shot Put, Discus, 100 Meter Sprints, High Jump then Javelin.

The one I liked the best was Discus. I was the last person up, I was so nervous when I was about to throw it. I threw it and as my hands let go of the discus it was flying up in the sky, when it landed I saw that I came first. I was so glad this was the 3rd time in a row. 2nd was Thora and 3rd was Hossanah.

At the end of the events we done the relays, the little kids were first. “Bang” the clappers went as the little kids raced up and down the field. The final racer ran down the field as fast as they could, and the winning team was Takitimu. Then it was the older kids, off they went the relay was about to be won by Matatua but suddenly Tainui beat her to the finish line. Finally it was the Parents and the Teachers verses the kids, but sadly the parents and the teachers lost the relay.

It was fun playing all of the events. At the end of the day I limped all the way back home. It was worth it unless I came something in Discus. I was so exhausted when I came back home I went straight to sleep.

My planet

This is my planet, it is called Unity. As you can see it is bright blue it is far away from the sun. I don't think anyone could live on here because there is no oxygen to breath.

The Film Festival

Every year all the school’s around Glen Innes make movies for everyone to watch on the Extreme Screen at Sylvia Park. Our latest session was on November the 11, only 3 school were there because everyone couldn’t fit in the cinema. But all the movies didn’t show because there wasn’t enough time, so there was a session at night that would show all the movies.

Last week all the schools in our cluster all went to Sylvia park for the Film Festival. As we arrived we saw 2 other schools, including Tamaki College. We went into the cinema and found our selves a seat. We waited for Tamaki Intermediate, and Glenbrae to come, when they came the movies started.

Tamaki College open up the film Festival there movie was called "Girls League Champions 2011". As I saw them come up to introduce them self I got up and started to cheer. It was a cool movie. The second movie we watched was "We Stand in Black" by Tamaki intermediate. It was hilarious because they made there own Flash Mob in Sylvia Park. During the day we watched some more movies.

Up next was a movie from our class it was "Enviro Travel". I was cheering as loud as I could because I was so excited to watch the movie. When the movie finished I thought that was the best movie so far. The film festival was nearly finished but there were 2 movies left. They were both awesome, but Tamaki College closed the film festival aswell with a movie called "Thriller".

All the movies didn’t show on our session so I went to the night one, so I didn’t really have a favourite movie. But when I went at night and I saw all the movies my favourite movie was "Te News". (Click on the links to watch the movies).

Our last Taonga Time

This year the kids in Team 5 have been doing Taonga time. This term I am now in Mrs Telea’s group. This is going to be our last group of the year. Our group had to stay in the same group as we were last term so this would be our second time in this group. We are learning how to make better movies by shooting from different angles. But mostly getting hooked on to learning with the stuff we use.

Last week we had to take a photo of ourselves, then drew a hook around our neck. After that we had to draw the things that hook us on to learning such as ….... books, our Net books, the things we enjoy and other things. Mostly everyone completed that activity, but most people didn’t really want to take there picture.

After all that as done we finally done some filming. We had to film the story of a fairy tale. Our group got Goldilocks & the 3 bears. We had to do all the shots we could think of, to finish the movie. But luckily we did, it was funny make the movie because some of us failed doing our lines.

When we finished making our movie we had to go back in the I.C.T room to show all the movies we had made. It was hilarious watching the other groups movies, everyone had the giggles. Our group was sadly not the best movie but we were alright unless we tried our best. That was fun.

This experience was fun making these movies. The thing I enjoyed was making the movies. It was really amazing. I really wanna do this again and enjoy the experience some more.

Our Class Experience!

Our topic for this term is Outta this world, we are learning about the things that happen in outer space. Yesterday our class room 21 made an experiment with balloons, the balloons represented the sizes and looks of the planet’s including the Sun. I always wonder suspiciously what is really happening up in space.

Our teacher Mrs Lagitupu gave us 10 balloons to show us how the planet’s in space. Some of the kids in our class demonstrated how the earth and planets orbit the sun. We blew the balloons up and tried to make them the actual size, but in a smaller version. The sun was in the middle and the everyone else who had the other planet’s had to go around the sun as if they were really the planets. It looked realistic.

The planet’s were in position, Mrs Lagitupu was waiting for everyone to be quite. Then the planets introduced themselves, as Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. After all the that Mrs Lagitupu said “GO” and off the planets went rotating around the big, bright sun. We noticed that the Earth wasn’t rotating properly, it was supposed to go around in circles as it was revolving around the sun. When that was done we had to tell facts about each planet such as …......

Did you know that Pluto is considered a Dwarf planet, and so Mercury is the smallest planet in our Solar System. Did you know that Saturn’s rings are made out of little tiny pieces of ice. It takes Earth one whole year to go around the sun once but it takes Venus 224 days. Mostly everyone can see the stars but Uranus can't because storms of clouds. Did you know that Venus was named after the Roman Godess love and beauty. The sun is the biggest and only star in our Solar System, but the biggest star in the universe is VV Cephei.

At the end of the day, mostly everyone enjoyed themselves. It was fun and experiencing, to know all those things. My favourite thing about this was knowing what things happen in space. I really enjoyed it and I hope we do it again for another experience. I really thought that was great. My favourite planet is Uranus, because of the colour and it is really beautiful.

Holiday Highlights !

“Hooray” I said happily as Term 3 had finished, no more work and no more school just FUN. Waking up at 12:00 p.m was a great way to start the next day for me, as I always have to get up early for school. As the days past through and Monday came up I was guttered cause I had to get up early for camp, and I knew we were going to wake up early for the rest of the week.

My first highlight was Willow Park, everyone who paid to go went. As we got to the camp site, I had a feeling it was going to be great. We ran around the site to get to know the place more it was very tiring because we had to do an activity with it. A little while later we had lunch, then enjoyed the rest of the week.

My second highlight was the Movies. I watched Foot Loose with my cousin Bobbi - Grace. First we went to buy our tickets for the movie then we went to the food court and ate. When we got there we saw our friends Cruz and Jordan, so they bought tickets as well and watched the movie with us. It was a pretty good movie.

My last but not least highlight was going to town to watch the Rugby World Cup Finals against New Zealand and France at the cloud. I went with my cousin Bobbi - Grace, and Kathleen. It was crowded but funny watching everyone goofing around and being silly all the time. I was so sad that I didn’t get to watch the game cause I was at the back so I couldn't see the screen. But at the end New Zealand won for the second time.

The holidays were better than the last few terms. I enjoyed this holiday for the first time. It was lots of fun and I really enjoyed my self at last.

Term 3 Highlights

So far term 3 has been the most incredible term of the year. This term brings back some happy moments. We have been involved in a lot events such as AFL, Silly Sports, Badminton, The Rugby World Cup, our Rugby games and many more.

My first highlight is learning about the Rugby World Cup. It is very cool that the Rugby World Cup is held is New Zealand. It is easier to go to all the games. Out of all the 20 teams that is in the Rugby World Cup I am supporting Samoa. But in class I’m learning about the team’s Italy and Argentina.

This term we have been doing sporting lessons. But now we are doing AFL (Australian Football League). Every week we have sessions with Michael and Lucy the instructors who have taught us new techniques about the game. Our first session was about getting in to it and making sure we got it. In the next few weeks we actually played a little game of Kiwi kick, it is another version of AFL but with New Zealand rules.

My last highlight is Tamaki Tech. This term I was in Electronics. The thing I enjoyed about Electronics was doing experiments. The only thing I made was a burglar alarm. But on the last week of the term we swapped and now I am in Science.

This term I had fun doing a lot of awesome events and games with my friends and class. I mostly enjoyed the AFL. At the end of this week I think mostly everyone has enjoyed this term like me.

Adjective Writing

1. As the fantastic Tongan rugby team (ranked number 12) came into New Zealand, they were welcomed by a huge crowd of excited Tongan supporters. Waving their flags, cheering and shouting, "GO TONGA"! The crowd was really showing that they were proud to be Tongan.

2. The crowd was going wild at a packed out stadium at Eden Park. Holding their signs and waving them around yelling out "GO ALL BLACKS"! As they wait patiently for the exceptional All Blacks to get a try against the fearsome opponents, the Tongans.

3. When the All Blacks come out, they do the legendery Haka to show that they are determined to win this game. They do the haka with pride, dignity and courage. Piri Wepu lead the haka in style and did the haka superbly.

Silly Sports Day!!

I had my gear ready, and I was good to go. On Tuesday 23rd August Team 5 (Room 19, 20, 21 & 22) had a Silly Sports day. I noticed that all the teachers were setting their games up. The activities we played was ball Tiggy, Sling Shot, 3 legged race and a Sponge race. We did this so we could have some fun and because it was too hot.

Our first rotation was Ball Tiggy. We were with our own teacher Mrs Lagitupu. Our class was split up into 4 groups: Blue, Green, Red, and Yellow. I was in the Blue Team. We challenged the Yellow team while the Green and Red teams challenged each other.
Most of us were tired because we were running around the square trying not to get tagged. I was the last person to get tagged, “WOOOHOOO” said the Green Team as the won the game.

Another activity was the 3 legged race with Mr Harris. We had get into pairs. My partner was Pesi. We had to get to the side of the field and back without the tennis ball falling off the spoon. “Ready Set Go” said Mr Harris, and off we went. We came second in our race, but in the finals we came forth. That was lots of fun.

The last rotation was the Sponge Race with Mrs Nua. Miss S (a student teacher) put us in to 4 groups, I was in group 3. I was at the back, when I got the sponge I squeezed out the water in the bucket and ran up to the front, dipped the sponge in the water and past it along. It was fun getting wet but unfortunately we didn’t win it was group 1, they won twice in a row.

At the end of the day I really enjoyed my self. It was lots of fun, my favourite activity was the Ball Tiggy and the Sponge race. I would like to thank the teachers that planned this event for us.

Cross Country

We had our cross country run on the 10th of August. Only the year 7’s & 8’s had to run. We had to run 3km but the had to run 3.5km. We ran around our school, the reserve and a bush walk.

My heart was pumping as the race was about to begin. When I heard the clappers go bang, everyone sprinted trying to takeover each other. As I got up to Mr Umu I started walking. Then I started jogging for a little while longer.

During the race we went through mud, puddles and a bush walk. It was very tiring, and hot. I was actually glad that I made it to the bush, but I knew that it was going to be a long run. Half way through the bush some of the yr 7 boys were passing me.

When I made it out of the bush we were back at school, the year 8’s had to run another ½ km. As I ran up to the finish line everyone was cheering me on. As I pasted the finish line I sat down and cheerd people on.

The run was very tiring and hot but it was fun. The thing I enjoyed about the race was making it to the finish and experiencing that long race.

Badminton

Last week Friday our class had a Badminton session in the street with Lorene, she was our instructor. Each Term we do different sports to help us improve our techniques in them. Term 2 we done Net Ball with Emma. Now we are doing Badminton.

In our 1st session we had to try control the shuttle and hitting it gently with the racket. We had to get in pairs, someone had to hit the shutter to there partner and they had to try catch it with a cone. My partner was Sela, it was lots of fun.

Next we had a competition. Our class was split in half so it would be even. We got 5 shutters each, we had try get as many in a bucket to win. Our team went 1st we only got 4 in, the other team only got 2 so we won that round. The next round we lost 4-5 but it was close.

It was time to go. We all said bye to Lorene and came back to class and done a brainstorm about Badminton. I was laughing most of the time.

My Holiday Highlights Term 3

In the holidays I didn’t do much. I usually just watched T.V. but I did some interesting stuff as well. The places I went to was the movies, mission bay, my aunties house and my cousin’s farewell. It was kind of fun.

The movies was my highlight. I went with Bobbi-Grace and we watched Kung Fu Panda 2 at Sylvia Park. Our movie started at 3:45 because we were late for the 1:50 movie, so we went to Pak’n’Save to get our food. We waited 2 hours for the movie to start, but the movie was cool and funny.

Kung Fu Panda 2 was about a a Panda named Po who didn’t know where he came from and so he tryed to figure what happened to him when he was younger. He found out that he was adopted because his parent’s was killed by eagles. He had to find his inner peace, near the end he defeated the eagle by finding his inner peace. And found out that his father didn’t die after all.

The holidays were all right. It was mostly boring though. These are my holiday highlights hope you enjoyed them. I really enjoyed myself, it was very fun.

Final Design

I chose this design because: There is rubbish in the school and you have to bin it so there is no more rubbish.

Evaluation:
* Does your sign meet all the specifications and requirements of the brief? If so, how?

* What is the purpose of your sign? Do you think your sign will help eliminate a problem in the school or street? If so, how? Bin it, maybe, because they might respect the signs

* What did you do well? Drawing my pictures

* What difficulties did you come across while making your sign? Drawing the signs

* What can you do next time to improve your project? Finish it faster
