Duffy Theatre

For the past few years the Duffy Theatre had come to our school and perform plays for us to enjoy. Finally the Duffy theatre came to our school again, for the first time this year. I was so happy they came, because I couldn’t wait for another exciting play they perform.

After morning tea most of the senior classes went to the hall for the Duffy show. When we got to the hall everything was all ready set up. Everybody was sitting down waiting for the show to start. Finally the show had started, first they introduced them selves. The story for this show was about “The Best Book In The World”.

The story was about Duffy who found a book called “The Best book In The World” in a box for a garage sale. While Duffy was reading the book, Scruffy always wanted play rugby him but Duffy always had a way to make him go away. The thing that made it funny was the characters, because they were played by only three people and one guy acted like a girl. Marvel was the main character in the book, she was soo hilarious.

There were lots of scenes in the show, but my favourite one of all was the Book Shop. I liked it because one of the actors acted like Sonny Bill Williams, he was getting a present for his daughter Emmy, the book he chose was “The Best Book in the World”.

Treaty of Waitangi

The treaty of waitangi s a treaty first signed on 6 February 1840 by representatives of the British Crown and various Māori chiefs from the North Island of New Zealand. The Treaty established a British Governor of New Zealand, recognised Maori ownership of their lands and other properties, and gave the Maori the rights of British subjects. The English and Maori versions of the Treaty differed significantly, so there is no consensus as to exactly what was agreed to. From the British point of view, the Treaty gave Britain sovereignty over New Zealand, and gave the Governor the right to govern the country. Maori believed they ceded to the Crown a right of governance in return for protection, without giving up their authority to manage their own affairs. After the initial signing at Waitangi, copies of the Treaty were taken around New Zealand and over the following months many other chiefs signed.

Our First Netball Session

On the 9th of February the weather mad me feel good to be alive, Room 19 went off to the courts for our first Netball lesson of the term. Arriving to the courts made us so hot it made us sweat like smelly pigs. Finally all the fuss was done, we started to do our netball lessons. First our instructor introduced her self, her name is Liz.

The first part of our lesson was, our passing skills. We all had to get on a dot or a cross, I ended up on a cross. After all that we had to face the person next to us and practise our passing with them. Then we done bounce passing, and finally we done our running skills. We had to run up, and the other person throws the ball to us as we jump over these things. We were all trained up, it was time to start the real game.

Finally the game had come, it was time to get serious. We split up into six groups, there were three courts and two teams played on each one of them. It wasn’t like the real Netball, but the rules were the same, the different thing was we had to try bounce the ball onto four big dots in the corners, instead of shooting it into hoops. The game had finally finished, my team won against the opposition, it was soo fun and enjoyable.

Netball was an amazing experience, I never thought it would be that fun as I am a Rugby Player. I actually enjoyed my self, my favourite part was the game, because we won and it was fun to play with my friends.

School's Back !

Finally the holidays had ended, it was time to go back to school. Walking into school yesterday from a long holiday, made me feel real happy as I am now a year 8. I was soo excited as I entered the school ground because I hadn’t seen my friends in a long time. I noticed some of the past year 8’s were here, I was so happy to see them. My friends came up to me and said “Hi” then we started to talk. It was a great way to start the first day of school.

When the bell rang everyone made there way to the hall, to listen at what Mr Burt had to say. After all the talking had finished, team 5 went off to the street. The teachers talked to us and how we had to be great role models, and how we had to properly behave ourselves for the whole year. Mrs Nua also called out our class for 2012.

The class I am in is Room 19, and my teacher is Mr Harris. On our first day we had to write down the names of the people we wanted to sit next to, I ended up with my friend Helen. I hope that this year would be a wonderful year, as it is the last year for the year 8’s.
